PAULA GUNDERSON, JULY 2024 VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT

How did you become involved with Living Grace Canine Ranch?

In 2021 I saw a Facebook post about a cleaning supply drive at Williams Grove. I inquired about how to become a volunteer.  In August 2021, I attend the orientation. When I first started with the ranch there were 6 new chi’s: Bentley, Birdie, Vincent, Winky, Marshall, and Zena. I spent my first few volunteer days loving on them and helping them adapt to their new surroundings. I developed a strong bond with all of these sweet chi’s.

I started walking pups of all sizes and fell in love with the LGCR mission, all of the pups, and the wonderful camaraderie amongst the volunteers and staff. I just wanted to do more. I became a walker for the big dogs and always saved time after each shift to cuddle with the littles. When there was a need for something, I asked how I could help. Through this, I solicited my husband, Les, to also walk big dogs and help with whatever was needed. We cleaned apartments, fixed broken items around the ranch, pulled extra shifts, became setup crew for offsite events, and helped with several onsite events. We also pressure washed the apartments, fixed the play yards, helped organize storage areas, and lent a hand wherever needed.

How long have you been an LGCR fan?

I’ve been a fan since I found out about the ranch in early 2021.

What roles have you held at LGCR?

While I lived in Texas, I was a cuddler, walker for the big dogs, trainer for new volunteers, an event ambassador, part of the event setup crew, an odd job participant, a volunteer committee member, and a forever foster mom to Taylor. In 2023 Les and I moved to Albama to be with family. I was so appreciative to still be a part of LGCR. My new volunteer role is as part of the Sanctuary Sweetheart team, which enables me to help sponsors stay connected to the wonderful dogs they support. I absolutely love being a part of LGCR, staying connected with the staff, volunteers, and all the sweet pups.

What would you tell the world about the ranch?

Volunteering at LGCR has a warm and happy place in my heart. No matter where you are,  what your physical constraints are or if you want to volunteer from home, LGCR has a place for you. It’s a place you can share your love and talents, dedicating a part of yourself to all the awesome senior dogs who are living each day to their fullest extent. Even though some days might be challenging for them, it’s all for the betterment of quality of life and living the rest of their days surrounded by love. LGCR is truly where love resides!
