The June Spotlight is on JEFF DANIEL
Read about Jeff and his LGCR journey:
Tell us a little about yourself?
I retired (for the second time) about a year ago. I do volunteer work at LGCR, as well as reading with kids at one of the Leander elementary schools. My mom read to me daily from the day I came home from the hospital, and helping other children improve their reading skills is my way of paying it back. I read with three first grade boys, and they are absolutely hilarious!
I’ve worked with Dalmatian Rescue groups for over 30 years, and absolutely love the breed. If you see a truck in the parking lot, with license plates that read SPOTS, that’s mine. We have three running our house right now, and they are horribly privileged.
I’m originally from Minnesota, but have spent more than half my life in Texas, including the last 22 years. Good folks here, and I hate snow!
I have a couple of motorcycles and like to travel all over the country on them, much better than on four wheels or an airplane.
How did you learn about the volunteer opportunities at LGCR? How long have you volunteered at LGCR and what is your role?
Our house backs up to Garey Park, so I knew about Jack, and his donations. I’ve been here since the fall of ’24, and I walk the big dogs on Wednesday mornings. I also help out with maintenance stuff when Rhonda asks.
What is your favorite memory of a time at the ranch or from an LGCR event?
The time that Nanner let me come in his apartment for the first time and showed that he trusted me. Love that boy!
Imagine having a superpower for 24 hours. What superpower would you select and how would you utilize it to make a positive impact?
The ability to read minds might allow me to determine what world leaders were thinking and hopefully end a lot of the showboating and strife we can’t seem to get out of. Or, it may simply force me to throw my hands in the air.
Do you have a favorite book or movie? Why is it your favorite?
“Goat Brothers” by Larry Colton, published over 30 years ago is a very interesting description of the paths that five frat brothers from Cal-Berkeley take after graduation and it depicts how everyone’s lives have twists and turns.

Thank you.. always great to hear about the volunteers/staff at The Ranch
