Love, A Universal Language

In her later years, Helen Keller wrote to a friend expressing her belief that "after a lifetime of silence and darkness, being deaf is a greater affliction than being blind." She believed hearing is essential for acquiring knowledge and is a higher form of information. To be cut off from hearing is to experience true isolation.



Cognitive development occurs significantly throughout a puppy's early life, with the most rapid progress happening in the first few months. Noticeable improvements in abilities such as memory, problem-solving, and social understanding continue until the puppy reaches adulthood, typically around 1 to 2 years old.

 

Through LGCR's Rural Roadside Rescue Program, we provide pathways of hope, health, and happiness to Texas dogs of all ages, especially those facing adoption challenges. For example, our Paisley (age 8) and her four-month-old puppies are deaf. The puppies were returned after adoption to a Midwest rescue due to deafness.
