Artie's Wish Comes True

Artie, an orphan with fifteen years of life experience and a few average age-related medical conditions, doesn't usually catch the attention of potential adopters at the shelter. The pool of potential adopters becomes even smaller regarding Chihuahuas, the second-highest breed for early-life terminations across the United States.

Artie's first wish was last March while sitting in a shelter. Not so magically, with the volunteer help of Melissa Meyer, she transported him home to the ranch. Today, Artie and Melissa are a forever foster family.

In 2020, LGCR introduced a vision to enhance the welfare of senior dogs in Texas without relying on traditional shelter adoption. The Senior-2-Senior program connects senior dogs with senior citizens and veterans to address loneliness and depression.

Currently, 45% of LGCR's residents have found permanent homes through this program, and it's clear from the wagging tails and the joy in the eyes of senior citizens that it's making a real impact. Families foster love, and we take care of everything else.
