Billy: A Protected Puffy Lion Dog

In China, Chow Chows are known as Songshi Quan or "Puffy Lion Dogs." They are generally healthy and have an average lifespan of 11-12 years.

Since 2021, Billy has lived a protected life after the owner’s abandonment.  Lacking socialization skills, his Chow Chow breed characteristics, such as aloofness, suspicion, and aggression, put him at high risk of harming humans or animals and being shot on sight by untrained law enforcement agents if he strays from home.

Conversely, Chow Chows are fiercely loyal and risk everything to protect their humans.

In his twelfth year of Life, Billy shows no signs or desire to slow down. Life is Good when you feel valued and loved.

My initial impression of Billie was that he was kind of a jerk. He did not seem to like the other dogs and lunged at them fighting me when we came back in. At best he was aloof. But I persisted in being nice to him and about the time he gave some of the other volunteers problems he kind of took to me recognizing, I think, a kindred spirit. It really came to a head one day when I was sitting in the off leash area and he came and put his head in my lap. That sealed it. We're buddies now. He obviously looks forward to my morning arrival and stands patiently when I get him on the lead.

We are fellow curmudgeons.
