Senior Executive Order
Temperatures below 32°F (freezing) are unsafe for senior dogs. They should not stay outside for long in these conditions, as they can quickly develop hypothermia and frostbite. Smaller, short-haired senior dogs may be uncomfortable and at risk in temperatures just above freezing.
Pitbulls do not handle cold weather well because their short coats lack insulation.
Key points about Pitbulls and cold weather:
- **Short coat:** Their short hair does not warm them enough in cold temperatures.
- **Need for clothing:** Pitbulls should wear a dog jacket or sweater in colder areas to stay warm.
- **Signs of cold stress:** Watch for shivering, hunched posture, whining, or unwillingness to go outside. These signs mean your dog is too cold.
