Contrary to popular belief, natural selection does not govern the survival of domesticated dogs. In rural Central Texas, many think working dogs thrive by "living off the land," but they face serious risks like heartworm disease, distemper, and rabies. The notion that they can reproduce to replace those that don't survive is misguided. Their survival depends on a unique bond with humans based on love and care, leading to a type of evolution defined by nurturing rather than survival of the fittest.
The LGCR's Rural Roadside program is designed to create a safe environment while offering essential wellness care to dogs like Valentine and Love, who have survived independently for years. Building trust with these dogs and fostering a positive relationship is a gradual process, but it is a rewarding endeavor.
Together for life as Sanctuary Sweethearts, Valentine and Love will embark on their journey without fear, focusing on what truly matters: a life of belonging and human companionship.
Consider supporting Valentine and Love as your Sanctuary Sweethearts by donating monthly to their wellness fund. You will receive monthly updates, and we can all cheer on this committed couple together!
