Our caregiving observations show that the death of a Life partner (human or canine) ends the relationship but does not sever all relational bonds. The sense of being connected to the lost figure persists. Therefore, grief sensitivity to 'physical absence' and the surviving canine's 'role' is paramount to the healing process.
