DORA

Dora carries herself with the kind of confidence that does not ask permission.

At 11 years old, this spirited little companion arrived at Living Grace Canine Ranch already showing signs of a complex medical history — a gentle head tilt and a protrusion of one eye that had first been treated elsewhere as an inner-ear condition. Further veterinary evaluations suggested a different cause: a likely mass located behind the eye socket, where surgery is not a safe option.

And yet, Dora did not arrive defeated.

She arrived alert, curious, and very much herself.

Some residents enter quietly. Dora entered like someone expecting the room to adjust accordingly.

LIFE AT LGCR
Today, Dora lives as one of our cherished Home Stretch residents, embracing each day with humor, confidence, and a remarkable ability to adapt.

Her head may tilt, but her perspective seems perfectly balanced.

She moves through familiar spaces with ease, keeps watch over household activities, and has mastered the art of appearing both charming and mildly unimpressed at once. She enjoys comfort, routine, companionship, and being exactly where something interesting might happen.

Dora has the rare gift of making people smile simply by existing in the room.
She reminds us that dignity is not found in perfect symmetry or ideal circumstances. Sometimes it arrives with a sideways glance and excellent posture.

SENIOR CARE NEEDS
Dora’s medical presentation is most consistent with a suspected brain or orbital tumor located behind the eye socket. This likely explains both her chronic head tilt and the forward positioning of one eye. At this time, surgery is not considered a viable option.

Importantly, Dora currently shows no signs of pain, which remains one of the most meaningful indicators of quality of life.

Her care focuses on comfort, monitoring, and preserving the joyful rhythm of daily life. This includes monitoring neurological changes, such as balance issues, circling, confusion, seizures, restlessness, or changes in mobility. Supportive treatments may be adjusted over time if needed to maintain comfort and stability.

For now, Dora continues to tell us she is still fully engaged in life — through appetite, curiosity, affection, and the confidence of a resident who has no intention of being underestimated.

A SPIRIT THAT LEANS FORWARD
Some companions teach resilience through effort.

Dora teaches it through attitude.

She does not spend her days explaining what is difficult. She spends them participating anyway.
And in doing so, she quietly reminds us that joy is often less fragile than we imagine.

SPONSOR DORA
Through the Sanctuary Sweetheart program, sponsors help provide the specialized care, comfort, and consistency that senior residents like Dora depend on.

Sponsors receive personal updates, share in meaningful milestones, and become part of the circle of love surrounding a life in its later chapter.

Dora’s story may include uncertainty medically, but it is filled with certainty where it matters most:
She is cared for.
She is cherished.
She is home.

Some hearts stand upright no matter how the head may tilt.
