LGCR coined the term “recyclable shelter dog” for canines having a history of being shelter surrendered, fostered, adopted, and re-surrendered within a year.
At age fifteen, Rocky has been ‘recycled’ repeatedly for over ten years. For dogs like Rocky, people will often ask, “What’s wrong with him?”; to that, we reply, “Absolutely nothing. Rocky is attempting to survive in a world whereby humans have failed him repeatedly.” Survival is a hard-wired mechanism in all living creatures- Rocky has learned it’s solely up to him to guard against perceived threats.
Understandably, it has taken a little longer than ‘normal’ for Rocky to show signs of feeling secure- but those days have passed, and his relaxed personality is beginning to shine through.
Rocky copes with age-related conditions such as arthritis and glaucoma with the help of daily medications. Beyond supporting Rocky’s quality-of-life essentials, your monthly donation represents genuine compassion for dogs of emotional challenges.
